Review - Minions

Minions is the newest film in the Despicable Me series, it is Directed by Pierre Coffin & Kyle Balda and stars Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney & Geoffrey Rush.
I'm glad that they decided to make a Minions movie, the Despicable Me movies are good, but everyone watches them for the Minions and they are always a stand-out, but the problem with making a movie about side characters is will they be able to hold the screen for a full movie? And they do!

This film is a lot of fun and i was laughing the whole way through.

Minions is a prequel to the Despicable Me films, the film starts out as a nature documentary on the Minions, narrated by Geoffrey Rush, which i thought was great, it taught us a lot about the Minions and we saw them evolve through the years, Minions need to follow the evilest person around, so 3 minions, Stuart, Bob and Kevin, set out to find there new master at Villain-Con, where all the evilest villains meet up, they find Scarlet Overkill (Bullock) and want to be her Minions, but they will have to do something for her first.

Meet Bob, Kevin & Stuart
The story in the film is crazy and perfectly suited for the Minions, the situations they get into are hilarious and they escalate in bizarre fashion. Even though the film focused on the Minions, thankfully there were lots of other interesting characters in the film that took off all of the pressure of the Minions having to hold the film on there own. Sandra Bullock's character Scarlet Overkill was a lot of fun and was reminiscent of Gru in the Despicable Me films', but Scarlet's laidback husband, Herb Overkill was my standout character, played by Jon Hamm, this character was hilarious, Hamm's delivery of the lines were perfect.

Michael Keaton and Allison Janney play a villainous couple, Walter & Madge Nelson, they are only in a few scenes but they were a lot of fun, but i don't think you needed people of Keaton and Janney's caliber in the role, it seems like a waste of them both.
The Minions (all played by Pierre Coffin) were better than ever in the film, their gibberish is so funny because of the random words thrown in like "Chicken Tikka Masala" among others, the minions are especially funny at the start of the film were they are showing them going through all of their previous masters.

Minions is everything it promised to be, a film featuring the Minions on their own adventure and it delivered thanks to the Minions being better than ever and the great side characters the film is packed with. Definitely take the kids to see this one.

3.5/5
